On October 1, 1949, the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China was held in Tiananmen Square, the capital of Beijing. Chairman Mao solemnly announced the establishment of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China to the world on the Tiananmen Gate tower, and personally raised the first five-star red flag. Since then, the Chinese people have stood up and the Chinese nation has entered a new era.

At 3 p.m. on October 16, 1964, a huge mushroom cloud exploded over Lop Nur, which was the signal of the successful explosion of the first atomic bomb independently developed by China.

This marks a crucial step forward in our national defense, becoming the fifth nuclear-armed country after the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and France.

At midnight on July 1, 1997, the Chinese government resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China was formally established.

At midnight on December 20, 1999, the Chinese government resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Macao, and the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China was formally established.

With the raising of the five-star Red flag of the People's Republic of China and the regional flag of the Special Administrative Region, the history of Hong Kong and Macao has opened a new chapter.

From August 8 to 24, 2008, China successfully held the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing.
